Baby Shower

This check list is in the following categories:
Checklist of things to do from baby shower invitations to planning games and food preparation.
  • Baby Shower Planning
  • Choose a date and location for the baby shower
  • Create a guest list
  • Choose a theme for the party
  • Send baby shower invitations
Baby shower invitations can be sent by postal mail, through Facebook, or as an Evite using the guest's email address.
    Baby shower invitations should include:
    • Name of the new baby's parents
    • Name and relationship of the hostess to the new mom
    • Location and time of the event
    • Address and directions
    • Date and time of the baby shower
    • Contact phone number
    • Date of RSVP

If there is a gift registry set up, indicate that on the invitation. Indicate if there will be a meal served and if dress is formal or casual.

  • Create a menu
  • Select 3-5 baby shower games
It is a good idea to have one mixer if the guests do not all know each other.
  • Find baby shower decorations and centerpiece ideas
You can create inexpensive baby shower decorations by using items such as decorated baby bottles or baby food jars to hold flowers or candy, cloth diapers as napkins, stuffed animals, or other small toys.
Large or small boxes can be wrapped to look like building blocks. Then, cut out large capital letters from colored paper and paste one onto each box. These can be used to spell words or names.
  • Items to purchase for the baby shower
  • Materials for decorations, table settings, and centerpieces
  • Baby shower favors for guests
  • Prizes for baby shower game winners
  • Gift and wrapping paper
  • Cake and ice cream
Serving ice cream with the cake is optional.
If serving ice cream at the baby shower, you may want to use pastel-colored ice cream and shape several servings with a melon ball maker. These can be done a few days ahead and kept frozen. For a nice touch, consider serving sherbet in small glass dishes with a mint leaf on top.
  • Food and drinks
It is not always necessary to serve a meal at a baby shower, but small munchies or appetizers are usually appreciated. Keep it simple -- finger foods are best.
